Shock Trauma - Somatic Experiencing & NARM

After a shock, your body holds the memory.
It is possible to find peace again.

A car accident, an assault, a serious fall, a natural disaster, a war. These events leave a deep imprint — not only in your memories, but in your body, your nervous system, your way of being in the world.

I support you in Brussels to resolve these traces, session after session, at your own pace.

Do you recognise yourself in these signs?

Hypervigilance

You are constantly on edge, as if danger could appear at any moment.

Numbness

You feel cut off from yourself, as if behind glass, absent from your own life.

Body on alert

Muscle tension, unexplained pain, chronic fatigue, sleep disturbances.

Intrusive thoughts

Images, sounds or sensations return without warning, sometimes months after the event.

"I'm not the same anymore"

Something has changed since the event. You feel it, even if you can't always explain it.

Avoidance

Certain places, people or situations trigger a strong reaction you prefer to avoid.

These symptoms are not a sign of weakness. They are the natural responses of a nervous system that experienced something too intense — and has not yet found a way to settle.

How I work with shock trauma

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Developed by Peter Levine, this approach works through the body rather than the narrative of the event. By working with physical sensations, the nervous system gradually learns to discharge the energy frozen since the shock. Gentle, gradual, respectful of your pace.

NARM — Neuroaffective Relational Model

NARM explores how trauma shapes our relationship with ourselves and others. It enables reconnection with internal resources and a greater freedom in relationships and identity.

"During the session I was in great awareness of what happened inside my body and Paulette guided me through the sensations in a grounded and professional way." — Lenny, client

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to talk about what happened?

No. Somatic Experiencing does not require you to relive the event or give a detailed account. We work with what your body feels, now, in the session.

How many sessions are needed?

Every journey is different. Some people feel relief from the first sessions. A follow-up of several months is often beneficial to consolidate the changes.

I am already on medication / seeing a psychiatrist. Can I still consult?

Yes. My approach is complementary to medical or psychiatric care. I collaborate with other health professionals when needed.

Are sessions in person or online?

I see clients in person at Be-Here, rue Dieudonné Lefèvre 4, 1020 Brussels. Online sessions are also available.
